Little Snitch informs you whenever a program attempts to establish an outgoing Internet connection. You can then choose to allow or deny this connection, or define a rule how to handle similar, future connection attempts. This reliably prevents private data from being sent out without your knowledge. Little Snitch for Mac runs inconspicuously in the background and it can also detect network related activity of viruses, trojans and other malware.
Features and Highlights
Silent Mode – Decide Later
There are times where you don’t want to get interrupted by any network related notifications. With Silent Mode you can quickly choose to silence all connection warnings for a while. You can then later review the Silent Mode Log to define permanent rules for connection attempts that occurred during that time.
Research Assistant
Have you ever wondered why a process you’ve never heard of before suddenly wants to connect to some server on the Internet? The Research Assistant helps you to find the answer. It only takes one click on the research button to anonymously request additional information for the current connection from the Research Assistant Database.
Automatic Profile Switching
Rules can be arranged in different profiles like “Home”, “Office” or “Mobile Internet”. This allows you to use different sets of filter rules depending on the network you are currently connected to. Profiles can be activated either manually from the status menu, or automatically, whenever you join a network that’s associated with one of your profiles.
Firewall for incoming connections
Little Snitch for macOS not only reveals any outgoing network connection attempt to make sure that sensitive data doesn’t leave your computer without your consent. The inbound firewall in LittleSnitch provides you with the same level of control for incoming connections.
Note: Requires 64-bit processor. The demo runs for three hours, and it can be restarted as often as you like. The Network Monitor expires after 30 days.
In order to perform its duty, Little Snitch needs to add components to a very low level of the operating system, which also need to be registered and unregistered with the system. It is therefore not sufficient to just remove all of Little Snitch’s application bundles. Instead, Little Snitch Uninstaller must be run.
Little Snitch Uninstaller
The easiest way to open the Little Snitch Uninstaller is to drag Little Snitch Configuration from the Applications folder to the trash. Little Snitch’s background processes notice this and automatically start the uninstaller that is located in /Library/Little Snitch/Little Snitch Uninstaller.app
.
Alternatively, the Little Snitch Uninstaller can be found in the Little Snitch .dmg
disk image file, next to the Installer. If you don’t have the disk image at hand, you can always download the current version from our website.
The uninstallation process itself is straight forward, with only one option to choose: Whether you want to remove your rules and settings or not. After the process is finished, you must restart your computer.
Sep 24, 2017 However, upon reboot after the Sierra upgrade, Little Snitch was not allowing any application to communicate with the internet. Network diagnostics showed Wifi, Ethernet, and iPhone hotspot as having five green lights and making a successful internet connection. After uninstalling Little Snitch and rebooting, internet access became available. Mar 11, 2010 I have recently installed little snitch, later i prefer to uninstall that, because, whenever i open any application, immediately one notification window. Mar 31, 2020 Turns out that in order to properly uninstall, one must re-install application online and click uninstall, otherwise Little Snitch leaves junk on your app bar (mac).
If you enable the option to remove rules and settings, the Uninstaller deletes all your system-wide configuration and rules files (also any files from older Little Snitch installations), including the file that stores your license information, as well as the configuration files, rules files and log files for the user executing the Uninstaller.
List of paths
Little Snitch creates files under the following paths:
The “~” (tilde) sign refers to your user’s home folder.

Please note that the Uninstaller does more than move the application bundles to the trash and delete the configuration files. If you really want to remove Little Snitch completely from your system it is highly recommended to use the provided uninstallation application.
